Ellie joined Ability First Australia as our Ambassador in May 2015 and is thrilled to support Ability First Australia and raise awareness for people living with disability. We wish Ellie every success in the lead up to her Rio Paralympic goals for 2016.
With 9 Paralympic medals under her belt, Ellie Cole has risen through the ranks of Australian swimming to become one of the world’s most promising Paralympic swimmers. Although suffering a double shoulder reconstruction, Ellie has staged a successful comeback and after sensational results in the recent Australian National Championships, she is once again on track for a stellar performance at Rio.
At age 3, Ellie’s right leg was amputated after she suffered a life threatening sarcoma cancer. Rather than dwell on adversity, Ellie has instead shown an incredible ability to overcome the odds to be where she is today. In March 2014, Ellie was awarded an OAM for her achievement and service to Australian sport. It’s not only Ellie’s courageous story, but her unrivalled sense of humour, her wonderful humility and her never-say-die attitude that make her a true Australian inspiration.
